Be warned, this book is dark and sexy and may not be your cup of tea!But if you understand/enjoy the S&M mentalities, this may be your new favorite book. It is definitely mine. I happily lost two days of my life as I devoured One Cut Deeper and its sequel Two Cuts Darker.
Ranay is a submissive that is still recovering from her last relationship. She is ashamed of who she is and fights her urges. Her submissiveness is more than just sexual, it is the life she wants to lead but hasn't been able to find a Master who wants both a 24/7 slave and can fulfill her masochistic needs, until she meets Charlie.
I loved that there was a story to this love story. Some might think that a S&M story where the partners are both extreme can be a love story. But this is definitely a story of the power of love.

This is the first time I have ever read anything by this author, but it certainly won't be the last. The boundaries are pushed to the limit, and then the limits are surpassed. The moral dilemma of a submissive who falls headfirst into a relationship very quickly with a man she hardly knows and then discovers more about later (is he a serial killer who met her under an assumed name?) from the FBI is not for the faint of heart. If this book is ever made into a movie, I'd never go see it. There is graphic blood and violence. What saved the story for me, though, is the way Charlie cares for Ranay; he sees to her needs while trying to ignore his own - at first. This is unconditional love in its purest form, which is remarkably frightening (imagine a world without limits, and you're in Ranay's mind!). Ranay is stronger than she knows, however. Her instincts draw her to Charlie, but they also keep her alive as the plot unfolds. One word of advice Don't read this right before going to sleep; I just had a restless night due to this book swirling around in my brain. Well done, Joely Sue Burkhart!
I was disappointed in the story. The writing is fine. The characters, however, one dimensional. The sex started off well and I thought the D/s dynamic was going to be stronger. Ranay is portrayed as very subservient and Charlie as dangerous and very controlling. I did not see Charlie's control as much as I anticipated from the way it was built up in the beginning of the story.
This story took me by surprise with how much it captivated and kept me on my toes.
Nice thriller/suspense with a deep background of kink.
Charlie and Ranay are great characters. The author somehow showed their faults and failings, and made me love them in spite of, and because of, them. They had a lot of depth, and I felt like I really understood their relationship, where they were coming from, and best of all as a reader, Why.
I'm looking forward to reading the next in this series, and more from this author.
I was originally not totally convinced and was not sure I would like it... I still bought it because I like the author and it sat in my To Read pile for a long time before I gathered up the nerve to read it. I hoped that I would at least like the story. I didn't just like the story, I LOVED IT! Thrilling, erotic, kinky, and loving. There is depth and heart in the story. I don't know how to go in to too many details without giving out potential spoilers, but let's leave it at people are not quite who they appear.
Enjoyable read – Charlie and Ranay are a pair that are meant to be.
Ranay is a woman trying to rediscover herself, after having devoted herself (and losing sense of self in the process to) to a Dom who wasn’t worthy.
Along come Charlie and his obedient companion Sheba, who both work their way into Ranay’s heart. Charlie and his dominate ways, meet Ranay’s needs in a way no Dom has before.
This amazing read has the elements I love to read; with a healthy dose of Alpha male whose dark tendencies aren’t for the faint of heart. So be warned Charlie and Ranay BDSM scenes include blood, knife play and delicious edging for Ranay’s enjoyment and torture.
As I said previously One Cut Deeper is an enjoyable read, so I will be continuing on with Two Cuts Darker. To find out what is in store for Ranay, Charlie and his long lost brother Vincent.

I know this story has some pretty dangerous kink, probably too strong for many, but I loved this book. I hope the second one is as good as the first and I will be looking for more by this author.
This is a great read for those who love S/M at its best.
Ranay works in a veterinary clinic and has been intrigued by one of their regular clients. She is a submissive with a string of past masters who either co u 'd not or would not meet her masochistic needs. When the client, Charlie, asks her to pet sit his king shepherd Sheba on Christmas Eve, it is the beginning of a love affair that will not only fulfill her needs but rock her to her very core. However, Charlie is much more than what he appears. His secret life brings danger into her otherwise blissful life.
This is the perfect balance of super steamy sex, danger and intrigue with good character development
and back story.
Be warned, this book is dark and sexy and may not be your cup of tea!
